Wash's expression tightens. "I'm not here to prop you up, York. I'm the worst Freelancer, remember? You don't need me and I don't need you." He's silent for a moment, before he slumps a bit and lets out a breath. "It's better this way. I was stupid to think otherwise."
York winces a little -- he knows he was a shit friend, alright, Wash doesn't have to keep reminding him of the ways he's screwed up in the past. The things he's said in teasing that stung more than he realized. "I'm sorry, okay? You weren't the worst. Aren't now. Nothing is ever better alone, Wash."
He wishes it was more satisfying to hear that. As it is, right now, it just makes something in his chest clench painfully and he tries to ignore the feeling.
"Alone means that I don't get stabbed in the back again."
"I'm not going to stab you in the back--" he pushes away the sting of Wash's implication, because the fact of it is that's just what someone planning to stab you in the back would say. He just sighs. This isn't getting him anywhere but hurt.
"Take your time, okay? I'll still be here when you're ready."

Until he lets people watch it for him again. York out.
